Monyca Eleogram

Monyca remembers calling her home break in Hana the "mysterious beyond," because she never seemed to make it to the lineup. Many years and accomplishments later, Monyca has undoubtedly "made it". At fourteen, Monyca's athleticism culminated, and she solidified her place in the professional world of surfing. She represented Hawaii at the '05 and '06 Quiksilver World Junior Pro and qualified for the 2007 NSSA National Finals.

However, Monyca sees surfing as something that goes beyond the competitive elements. Monyca's self-proclaimed greatest achievement is not her success as an athlete. Instead, she sees it as spending time with people she loves, and having a job that lets her surf everyday. Her life philosophy, which she embodies to a T, is "do what you love."

Monyca married her childhood sweetheart and best fried Ola on her family property in 2013. When Monyca is not modeling and traveling with the Roxy surf team she works with her husband Ola on their organic fruit farm in Hana, Maui.

Follow Monyca on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

If there weren’t already enough reasons to love Hawaii and it's sun-drenched island charm, we managed to find a few more...

Over the weekend, our friends from Herewith Magazine caught up with island beauties, Monyca Eleogram and Mainei Kinimaka, on the North Shore in search of some #WildAloha.

Summer is calling and we can’t wait to head back to the beach!

This season we took inspiration from the honoured connection Hawaii shares with Japanese culture. Let the tropical soft floral prints transport you to the shores of Oahu, where the scent of plumeria dances in the breeze with the soft lilting melodies of traditional ukulele ballads.

Take the lead from the ROXY team and share the aloha spirit with you wherever you go.

As we shake off another winter, our mind turns to the destination of our next tropical adventure and the sun soaked days that follow. Hawaii seemed inevitable and we’re certainly no strangers to the lure of its island charm that draws us back again and again. It makes us question what we’re doing if we’re not there and time seems to stand still when we arrive.

Hawaii may have been the destination but it was the Aloha state of mind we were coveting.

Before you explore the new collection here, join the adventure with Steph, Monyca and Mainei in our latest clip.

From Tahiti to France and Ireland to Japan, Monyca Eleogram has had a busy travel schedule for campaign shoots and #ROXYpro events over the last 12 months. With a large part of her year spent in transit to exotic locales and sought after surf breaks, Mons decided to document her adventures by packing a cheap disposable camera to take along for the journey.

Take a look at a few of Monyca’s magical moments captured on film below -

Snapshots from the Road with Monyca Eleogram

JAPAN

My trip to Japan last year is where it all started, for my disposable fujifilm camera that is :) Kelia, Holly, and I were looking for snacks and face masks in a tiny convenience store when we kept finding super fun and unusual trinkets.

Snapshots from the Road with Monyca Eleogram

I saw the camera and thought it would be really fun to have real photos of this amazing place! Believe it or not these are the only two pics I took in Japan, but I really love this pic of me standing in front of an incredible temple in Kyoto wearing a Hawaiian haku (head lei) given to me the night before at a ROXY store visit in Osaka.

Snapshots from the Road with Monyca Eleogram

TAHITI

This was a super memorable trip for me. We were there for a photo shoot/surf trip for two weeks! Enough time to really get a good feeling for the culture and we got to see quite a few places, and waves. My fear levels were tested by big swells and watching Sis (Kelia Moniz) catch that monster wave at Teahupoo. My favorite memories were made surfing with best friends, eating traditional poisson cru (a ceviche style tahitian salad), watching the locals bring in their fresh catch, and exploring the coast by boat.

Snapshots from the Road with Monyca Eleogram

IRELAND

This picture isn’t anything too special but Ireland definitely is. This was my second trip there and it was only for two days! What an incredibly beautiful country full of amazing people. I don't think the sun set until 11pm and we managed to shoot all day long. From the cliffs of Moher to the cattle filled streets we saw it all that day without wasting a moment. I have a picture in my phone somewhere of me in front of the ruins of a stunning old castle. So rad. I love Ireland.

SWITZERLAND

I was so excited when I got the email that we were headed to Saas Fee, Switzerland, for a shoot. I had always wanted to see it in the peak of Winter because of photos I had seen. On this trip I got the best of both worlds, perfect green and lush flowery landscapes near our hotel, then just a short walk to the gondola and we were on the glaciers watching professional ski and snowboard teams training. The views were unlike anything I had ever seen.

Snapshots from the Road with Monyca Eleogram

FRANCE

Always such a treat to visit. All the girls get together, some competing in the #ROXYpro France, and others creating content stories for social media. We all stay together in a big house in Hossegor. Last year the snow team were in town and we had a massive beach picnic while cheering the ROXY team riders on. There are so many friends there that I grew up competing against. Trips like this allow us to stay close and create new memories together.

Snapshots from the Road with Monyca Eleogram

MALDIVES

Straight after the #ROXYpro a few of us left for a shoot in the Maldives. I have never seen whiter sand or more turquoise water! We stayed on board the Ocean Divine boat so we were in the water constantly. Snorkeling, swimming with huge rays and Kelia and Steph even got to swim with a whale shark. So amazing. Dance parties on the top deck were pretty epic too.

Snapshots from the Road with Monyca Eleogram

HAWAII

I finished off my camera roll in Hawaii last winter hanging out and shooting some surfing around Waikiki. Most of the surf world is in Hawaii for the winter contests, not to mention capturing amazing content the world’s best. Steph, Whitney, Kelia, and I had a great time this day paddling around a supsquatch in matching hats and enjoying a cocktail or two in the sunset. Waikiki is always magic.

Snapshots from the Road with Monyca Eleogram

If you could tell a story of what 12 months looked like in only 24 shots, (and just remember this is film, not digital, so no do-overs or filters) what would those pictures look like?

When we hit the beach and paddle out, we’re not afraid to turn heads. We’re here to have fun, catch waves and share the stoke. Our latest #POPsurf collection is set to bring new life to the lineup with prints drawing inspiration from the 70s and 80s kaleidoscopic surfboard art.

If subtle-but-fierce is more your style, check out the solid black surf onesie with embossing to make a statement. Made with top technology and designed to be surf-ready, you will be ready to charge.

Join Steph, Monyca and Kelia in this clip from their most recent surf adventure through the Maldives.

From our saltiest groms to our World champs, we love sharing the stoke on a daily basis, but on June 20th we are joining our athletes and the surf community to celebrate International Surfing Day by heading to our favorite beach to surf, participate in beach clean up or soak up the weather with friends.

And to sweeten the deal, ROXY and Quiksilver are donating $10 from every boardshort and swim piece sold today to the Hawaiian Lifeguards. Because good karma swells and the ocean belongs to everyone.

Surfrider Foundation is hosting over 200 #ISD2016 events across the globe to enable every person to give back to their local beach or favorite surf break. Stay up to date throughout the day by following #ISD2016 on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for all the fun!

Their whirlwind trip may have come to an end, but the #3Amigos are still riding the high of sun, stoke and plenty of sushi after a week of traveling around Japan. We asked Kelia to give us a recap of their adventures, her favorite #3Amigo moments from the road and a little extra insight into their lifestyle.

Read more about Kelia’s favorite moments from the land of the rising sun here:

First thing you need to know about the #3Amigos is that coffee is mandatory in the morning to get us going. This is our happy place.

We may clog your instagram feed with some serious try hard photos sometimes but there’s far more fun in the moments between what you usually see that I love way more. Some of my faves from this trip i’ve included below, keep scrolling :)

Bruna’s convinced that the 90s style bikini was made for me. I don’t exactly see what she sees but i’ll run with it anyway! What do you think?

Monzy: She’s like the sun, so bright, never dull and makes everyone happy. There’s not one bone in her body that isn’t loveable. Not to mention the most RIGGED (rigged means rocking bod) human i know. Look at that perfect smile. I LOVE this photo.

Afternoons usually land us at a beach somewhere. In this case we enjoyed the black sands of Chiba. Nothing without a little happy hour and blasting some Riri and Beyonce. You best believe there was a beach dance party soon after this photo was taken.

Chiba golden hour is quite a treat! This photo makes me so happy inside. The ocean is such a beautiful thing and when the sun sets over the sea, there’s nothing like it.

After two days cruising the Greenroom Festival in Yokohama, we were eager to explore the streets of Tokyo before heading to the coast. With just 24 hours up our sleeve in one of the most populated capital cities in the World, we initially wondered where we should begin. As it turns out, the better question was where does it end!

Rather than the group deciding on where to go, we handed the decision making to Monyca. Wherever she wanted to go, we would follow.

Take a look at our time out in Tokyo and a few of the hidden gems we loved -

Sunday PM

The famous Shibuya Crossing - Everyone loves taking a few photos here. It's a fun way to capture your Japan experience. It is absolutely packed with people and it really makes you feel small in this wild world

Shinjuku - The World's largest train station is situated in Shinjuku, so checking this area out was crazy. Fast pace, bright lights and people coming and going in all directions. We had landed our selves in the busiest part of Tokyo city. This would have to be the exact opposite way of life to my quiet and laid-back lifestyle in Hana

Harajuku - The perfect place for some retail therapy. Harajuku has everything, from high-end fashion to fun Japanese brands, you could shop for days. Plus there's plenty of adorable little coffee shops and restaurants in this area. I loved being able to see a great mix of culture and people here too.

What better way to kick off our weekend in Japan, than cruising the surf culture, art, film and music at the Greenroom Festival, along Yokohama’s historic waterfront. The two day festival gave us a chance to not only immerse ourselves amongst over 100,000 like minded salty souls but to hang out with the local fans and share some serious selfie stoke.

We asked Bruna to round up her favorite moments from the weekend and how she can best describe the experience -

Day 1

ROXY girls unite!

Postcards from Japan: #3Amigos at the Greenroom Festival

Was Japan what you expected it to be?

I've heard only good things about Japan, I love sushi and I couldn't wait to visit Japan for the first time. There is a big Japanese community in Brazil, so we learn a bit about their culture growing up. I'm over the moon with this place, the people are incredibly polite, the city is so clean and I love the street style (and obviously the food just gives that perfect final touch!).

Postcards from Japan: #3Amigos at the Greenroom Festival

Tell us about the surfing fans in Japan?

We did a little meet and greet at the ROXY GreenRoom booth. I knew before I came here from Kelia and Monyca, that the Japanese fans were super passionate, but experiencing it is a whole different thing. They made us feel so special, they are so thankful and sooooo happy to see us, it was adorable. The girls were so polite and lovely, my favourite new word is "Kawaii" which means cute :)

Postcards from Japan: #3Amigos at the Greenroom Festival

Postcards from Japan: #3Amigos at the Greenroom Festival

What's the Greenroom festival all about?

Surf, Music, and Art. I love live music, I will always find an excuse to go see bands, and I love the idea of festivals, live music during the day is my gem. The GreenRoom was such a great experience because the one thing that usually gets me at festivals is the crowd and people bumping into you, but not in Japan, people are way too nice and polite.

The people.

Top 3 must do's when in Yokohama at the Greenroom?

Check out the art gallery space. It's amazing.

Most definitely come to the ROXY booth so you can hang with the 3 amigos.

And enjoy all the live performances, our most favourite this time was Nattali Rize she rocked it!

How to Pack the Perfect Beach Bag with Monyca

As the ROXYpro got underway at Snapper Rocks, Monyca, Kelia and Bruna (AKA the 3 Amigos) and the Summersite crew packed the car and headed to Byron Bay, and all that the North Coast of New South Wales had to offer. Rambling through rainforests, glamping on the beach and plenty of empty waves.
