Bruna Schmitz

Bruna Schmitz turns heads both in and out of the water. Her big backhand hits and stylish forehand snaps equally match her natural, Brazilian poise as a model. She put in two years on the elite World Tour in 2009 and 2010, and Sports Illustrated showcased her beauty in the 2011 Swimsuit Issue.

Bruna grew up surfing a long, right hand wave in the small town of Matinhos, Brazil. By the age of 14, Bruna was already the youngest athlete to win a professional event in Brazil. She kicked off her pro career at the age of 15, traveling and competing internationally. In just two years, Bruna made the ASP World Tour.

Bruna is perfect spokesperson to represent her country. She is set on using her role model status to create fun, recreational opportunities for Brazil's less-fortunate city kids. Bruna remains a kid at heart and her fun-loving attitude is infectious.

It’s no secret that the Hawaiian islands are one of our favorite pieces of P A R A D I S E. We feel most at home when we visit and struggle with the concept of returning to our day to day lives when we eventually have to leave.

Imagine then, the incredible week we had on Kauai with one of the largest gatherings of #ROXYgirls to date for our Spring campaign. A magical week of not only soaking up mother natures finest but sharing stories and laughs between a team of incredible women.

Bruna Schmitz is far from ordinary. Her spontaneity and style sets her apart from other female surfers. Bruna entered Herewith office with a proposal and in just 5 days they boarded a flight to Tavarua. This last minute trip landed her a cover shot on their latest issue.

We asked Bruna for some insight about the trip and where her idea sparked from -

"I went to a meeting with Serena the editor of Herewith magazine to brainstorm about doing something fun for the next issue. I said I wanted to shoot the cover, she laughed and said well we need to produce some amazing imagery and I said well lets go to Fiji.

It was a crazy last minute trip, I booked our flights the next Thursday to leave Saturday. It was just me Serena and Tahnei, the filmer. We somehow pulled it off.

Tavarua Island has to be one of the most magical places on earth. It's a true paradise, and the people there, they are unlike anywhere else. They are so loving and welcoming it makes you never want to leave. I feel like Fiji holds such a special place in my heart and it was the perfect place to be for this issue titled "Revelation".

It brought me back to a trip I did with Sis and Monz to Tavarua like 5 or 6 years ago, and that trip was so impactful to me. It was the turning point to my life and where I am today, like everything shifted there, and the girls guided me thru it, they were there for me like sisters and looking back that was a "revelation" to my life and to where I am today."

If you’re a fan of kicking off your day with a delicious and nourishing breakfast like we are, then chances are you’re going to want this breakfast bowl recipe that Bruna Schmitz shared with us. It’s simple, healthy and you can customise it with just about any fruit and nut combo you have on hand.

Scroll down for Bruna’s easy instructions.

Bruna’s Breakfast Bowl Recipe

This is a simple version that’s easy to make, but I like to mix it up so I don’t get tired of it. My favorite fruits to use are raspberries and peaches. I also like to add cacao nibs and goji berries every once in awhile.

The base of the recipe is oats, everything else can be removed or replaced. For example, coconut milk or peanut butter, greek/fat free or coconut milk yogurt. Just do whatever suits your taste.

Bruna’s Breakfast Bowl Recipe

1 cup of almond milk

1/2 cup of yogurt

1/2 cup oats

A spoonful of almond butter

1 tsp of chia seeds

1/8 cup of chopped almonds

3 kiwis

1 tbsp of honey

Bruna’s Breakfast Bowl Recipe

Mix the yogurt and the almond milk until it’s combined. I used a passionfruit yogurt blend that was already sweet, but if you use fat free or greek yogurt, I suggest adding a little more honey or sweetener in the mix.

Bruna’s Breakfast Bowl Recipe

Add the oats, chia seeds, almond butter and chopped kiwis one at a time mixing each time.

Bruna’s Breakfast Bowl Recipe

Once it’s all mixed, sprinkle the top with the chopped almonds, the rest of kiwis and honey.

And viola! Breakfast is served.

While we were watching Steph chase down her 2017 #ROXYpro Gold Coast victory, hundreds of girls rolled out their mats on Rainbow Bay beach for the #ROXYfitness event.

Rain, Hail or Shine at #ROXYfitness Gold Coast

Despite the low pressure system bringing the rain, spirits were high as we kicked off the 7am start with yoga on the beach.

The view of pumping waves rolling past as we saluted the sun (hidden behind a few clouds) brought a great energy to the yoga session as did the partner yoga which also gave us a few laughs as we stretched with a buddy.

The fun continued with a 5km run, tracing the coastline from Rainbow Bay to Kirra and then back again.

We think the excitement of finals day at the #ROXYpro managed to pull everyone over the line quicker than ever before, with the winner of the run leg, completing the race in 20:22!

After a quick snack we headed to Jack Evans Boat harbour for the 1km SUP race.

While we managed to dry off during the run, it didn’t take long for the heavens to open one again, and deliver another almighty tropical downpour as we were paddling our way around the Tweed River.

With the #ROXYpro on hold for the boys to complete a few rounds at the #QuikPro, we decided to escape the craziness of Coolangatta for the morning and take a day trip further down the coast for a few uncrowded waves and some downtime with the team.

Cooling off in Cabarita during the #ROXYpro

Our strike mission began early with Mainei, Bruna, Lisa, Bianca and Lee-Ann strapping boards and packing cars with all the essentials before 6am, and after a quick coffee stop, we were fueled up and ready to hit the highway.

Cooling off in Cabarita during the #ROXYpro

It didn’t take us long to feel like we were miles away from the hustle and bustle of Coolangatta, with the urban sprawl slowly melting into the coastal rainforest lining the highway.

Cooling off in Cabarita during the #ROXYpro

In no time we were parked at the Cabarita headland and taking in the uninterrupted views along the dramatic rocky coastline of the morning surf conditions. After a quick decision as to where we would make our camp for the morning, we promptly unpacked the cars and set off down the beach.

Lee-Ann and Bianca were the first ones to hit the water, carefully selecting their weapon of choice from our collective quiver (naturally, we packed for all conditions), with Bruna close behind. The girls were spoiled with an empty line up to share and wasted no time in giving passers by a reason to stop and watch their enviable skills.

As the girls started to come back in from the surf, the subject soon turned to lunch and where to find it. We took a short walk from the beach and stumbled across a sushi bar that seemed to answer everyone’s cravings.

Within minutes of devouring a few hand rolls and gyoza, we were told that the perfect spot to relax on a sunny day in Cabarita was Halcyon House, and given it was just a five minute walk away, we just couldn’t resist.

A refreshing spritzer and plenty of laughs later, we decided to pack up the cars again and head back to Snapper Rocks, just in time to catch Steph set the super bank on fire, catching four barrels in one heat.

Tune in to the dawn patrol show tomorrow morning from 7am AEDT call, for all the finals day action (fingers crossed!)

This time next week, we’ll be back in championship tour mode, patiently waiting for the World Surf League dawn patrol to call on the first heats of the #ROXYpro Gold Coast 2017.

Until then, we scrolled back through the gram and found a few of our favorite posts to give you an idea of the fun that is about to unfold...

From our saltiest groms to our World champs, we love sharing the stoke on a daily basis, but on June 20th we are joining our athletes and the surf community to celebrate International Surfing Day by heading to our favorite beach to surf, participate in beach clean up or soak up the weather with friends.
